I really thank God for the first 3 days of school. I am very satisfied with what had happened so far. To date, I feel that I have conducted 2 lessons that managed to excite the students and made them more interesting in what they do.
Today, I focused on oral reading when we were doing comprehension and the desire to use points to spice up the lesson came back again. As I carried out the lesson, I actually developed a new strategy and it works extremely well.
Here's how it goes.
My class is divided into teams this year. There are altogether 4 teams. Marks are awarded for each team for every correct answer. The teams take turns in answering. Once the activity ends, their marks are tallied and then the winner will be awarded one point. These points awarded will be collated over a period of time. What I have done is to make the point system two-tiered. A new variant!
So far, I have been successful in using the new monitoring method for my students. I hope I can keep it up. Upon reflection, what I had done wrong recently was because I don't have a very clear system of tracking and training of my student leaders to help me. May God help me to sustain this.

A New Start
Year 2007 marks a new chapter in my teaching career.
I entered the teaching service in Jun 2001, was promoted to GEO1A2 in May 2005 and now, I have finally made up my mind to move into the leadership track.
Actually, such a decision makes me quite motivated now. Within months, I have been coming up with frameworks that will help to keep me navigated in delivering processes that I am in charge of. Think its so much better than trying to run away from responsibilities. Now, I am in a position to make serious recommendations to improve processes and I see things moving. I guess we really have to get our hands dirty if we want things to move in the way we desired.
I went into identity crisis last year (in terms of my work as a teacher). I indicated I wanted to advance in the teaching track and even took up Masters for it. Yet, I don't see me given job responsibilities that will develop me in that area. I also see that my roles in the math department are also diminished. End up getting nowhere and it was quite frustrating.
Well, I had always been successful in getting out of systems if I wanted to but what is annoying is that I cannot seem to see developmental paths set out for me in the teaching track. Then, I was given the second chance to consider taking up the leadership track again.
After much consideration and listing out my thoughts before the Lord, I finally bowed to the fact that it is much better for me to choose the better option; to move into leadership. (I hated monitoring and getting people to do things but I cannot run from it anymore)
Still have lots to recall but I think it does not really matter much to you reading it. I'll just end here and I shall dedicate this blog to keep track of my significant contributions, achievements , struggles and maybe conflicts in this career that I am in.
May it come in useful later when I needed to gather data for making a transfer to the teaching track. Haha..
